Peru
is a simply amazing country with lots to offer. You could spend
months doing different things but as most people usually have
a limited amount of time and generally base themselves around
Cusco here are our suggestions of what you can do. Read through
some of our ideas and let us know what you would like to do.
Machu
Picchu and the Inca Trail
| One
of the most amazing and magical places in the world. You
can walk the Inca trail to arrive by foot or travel down
the valley on the train. Whichever you choose you can also
spend extra time in Aguas Calientes, the village below this
ancient site, to have time to visit the hot springs, waterfalls
or spend an extra day wandering the site. |

There
are a variety of different services, trains, hotels and packages
available to suit your budget. Just let us know what you would
like to do or ask for our advice.
City
and ruins tour
Our
standard guided tours are an economical way to see some of the
best highlights in and around Cusco. Included are the cathedral,
the koricancha, Sacsaywaman and three other small ruins just
outside the city.
If
you would like a private tour to see other things not on the
standard schedule or to take more time at certain places we
can arrange a private guide and transport to take you wherever
you like.
Sacred
Valley tour
Our
standard guided tour takes you out all day to Pisaq market (Tuesday,
Thursday and Sundays), Urubamba (for a buffet lunch), Ollantaytambo
ruins and Chinchero church.
Again
private tours are available, including our own unique tour including
visits to a clinic and a farm. There is also an option to end
the tour in Ollantaytambo, stay overnight and travel to Machu
Picchu the next day making the journey much shorter.
Trekking
The
classic Inca Trail is the most famous walk in Peru but it is
not the only one by any means. There are hundreds of trails
that you can enjoy. One of the newest exciting treks is to the
beautiful citadel of Choquequirao which is a mini Machu Picchu.
There are also numerous others around the Cusco region such
as Lares, Salcantay and Ausangate.
In
addition there are lots of day walks that you can do with advice
from us, or accompanied by one of our guides.
Maras
and Moray
Trips
can be made to both of these very interesting places in the
same journey. The salt pans at Maras are old Inca salt terraces
that are still used today to extract salt from ground water.
It's a fascinating place to visit and is off the usual tourist
trail.
At
Moray you can visit the strange circular terraces said to be
Inca experimental agricultural tools. It is believed that the
Inca used these terraces to create different micro-climates
to try different crop species.
Off the beaten track
Its
true that in high season there are thousands of people in and
around Cusco. Saying this it is still possible to get off the
beaten track and away from crowds. There are a number of small
ruins that do not attract many visitors for example Huchuy Cusco,
Tipon, Pikallacta etc. Give yourself time to see some of these
lovely out of the way places.
